About This Wine
Kistler Vineyards "Les Noisetiers" Chardonnay represents a classic benchmark for Sonoma Coast winemaking, blending California fruit concentration with the tension and elegance of old-world Burgundy. Named after the French term for "hazelnut trees," this cuvée is celebrated for its distinctive aromatic signature of roasted nuts, citrus blossom, and bright orchard fruit. Sourced from high-elevation and cool-climate vineyards across the Russian River Valley and coastal hillsides, the vines grow in fine Goldridge sandy loam soils that contribute a distinct, flinty minerality to the glass.
The winemaking approach relies on minimal intervention to let the terroir express itself clearly. The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed before undergoing barrel fermentation using entirely wild, native yeasts. The wine ages on its fine lees in French oak barrels—typically around one-third new wood—for roughly eleven months. To preserve its natural weight, complex texture, and energetic acidity, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
On the palate, it delivers an initial burst of Meyer lemon, white peach, and orange oil before opening into richer notes of brioche, wet stone, and marzipan. A round, mouth-coating texture is framed by vibrant natural acidity, keeping the mid-palate fresh and driving into a long, savory finish. It pairs exceptionally well with rich seafood dishes like butter-poached lobster or seared sea scallops, as well as roast poultry and nutty, hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gruyère.
