Does vintage matter when it comes to wine?

If you are buying a wine over $25 and have tasted that vintage before then we would say to try to find the exact vintage that you enjoyed. If not most wines are produced to taste the same year after year, ie grocery store wines with a a lot of retail exposure.

Why is Cabernet Sauvignon tannic?

The American palate has massively rewarded tannic wines so producers have been sticking to their tannic formulas. Unfortunately, foods that are heavily processed lack flavor so it makes sense to pair a tannic wine with your Panera bread grilled cheese.

Are screw top corks inferior to traditional corks?

Technically, screw top corks are called Stelvin closures. Why? Stelvin is an artificial word made up of Stelcap (registered trademark for screw caps) and Vin. It is a special aluminum closure for wine bottles. They are actually better at preventing oxidation (keeping the air out) than traditional corkage.

Should I invest in a Durand corkscrew?

If you tend to drink vintage wines, ie wines that are really old and expensive, then it makes sense to invest in a Durand because they possess a helix and blades mitigate the possibility of the cork disintegrating and ruining your $25,000 bottle of Domaine Romaine Conte 1964. Watch us open a $25,000 bottle of wine here.

Why is Italy considered the Land of Wine?

Italy is home to a million vineyards, 20 appellations and 2,000 indigenous grapes. In ancient times and for these reasons, Greeks would refer to Italy as the land of wine if they were going there for a road trip (or invasion or maybe not as military history is not our glass of wine).
