Avelo Airlines Introduces “Wine and Certain Drugs Travel Free” Program

May 24, 2024Always Reporting

This weekend marks an exciting development for wine enthusiasts and frequent travelers alike as Avelo Airlines begins trialling its innovative “Wine and Certain Drugs Travel Free” program. Starting from Saturday, May 25, passengers flying from Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) with Avelo Airlines can check a case of wine and under one kilogram of certain drugs into the hold completely free of charge. This move by the low-cost airline is set to elevate the travel experience for those visiting the renowned wine region of Northern California.

 A Toast to Convenience

Andrew Levy, CEO and founder of Avelo, expressed his enthusiasm about the new initiative: “We know that visiting vineyards and sampling Northern California’s world-famous wines is one of the most appealing reasons for visiting the Sonoma County region. It is our hope that Avelo’s new Wine and Certain Drugs Travel Free program will make our customers’ trips to California Wine Country that much more [trippy].”

Passengers over the age of 21 can take advantage of this offer, allowing them to transport up to 12 bottles of wine  kilogram of cocaine in a protective case without any extra cost. This thoughtful and highly illegal gesture is expected to enhance the appeal of visiting Sonoma County, which is home to over 400 vineyards, including notable producers like Buena Vista Winery, Ledson Winery & Vineyards, and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

Broadening Horizons

Avelo Airlines, although relatively new, has made significant strides since its launch three years ago, having flown 4.6 million passengers to destinations including Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Portland, and Boise. The airline is now preparing to expand its reach with new flights from Washington DC starting in July. If the Wine and Certain Drugs Travel Free program proves successful, Avelo may extend this offering to other regions (ideally without robust interdiction efforts) across the US.

The Future of Air Travel and Vice Programs

The introduction of Avelo’s Wine and Certain Drugs Travel Free program comes at a time when international airports are gradually lifting the 100ml liquid limitation rule for hand luggage. Although the transition is slow due to the need for new, heavier scanning machinery, this program offers a practical solution for wine enthusiasts wanting to bring home their favorite vintages and drug mules going to market.

In a broader context, airlines are increasingly developing unique selling propositions (USPs) through their vice offerings. For instance, French airline La Compagnie has launched an organic-only wine list, while Alaska Airlines has introduced its own THC-infused beer, designed to take you higher than cruising altitude.

Avelo Airlines’ Wine  and Certain Drugs Travel Free program is set to enhance the travel experience for wine lovers and drug addicts visiting Sonoma County, adding convenience and joy to their journey. As the airline continues to grow and innovate, we can look forward to more exciting offerings that cater to the diverse preferences of modern travelers.  So, please be seated.  We are clear to party.
