About This Wine
Ferrari Brut is a renowned sparkling wine hailing from the Trentino region in northern Italy. It is crafted exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes using the traditional method (metodo classico), the same process used to produce Champagne, which involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle. While Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay sparkling wine) is also a category in Champagne, Giulio Ferrari was a pioneer in recognizing the potential of Chardonnay grapes in the Trentino mountains for producing high-quality traditional method sparkling wine as early as 1902. Ferrari Brut is a pure expression of Chardonnay shaped by this specific alpine environment, which differentiates it from Chardonnay-based sparkling wines from other regions.
This iconic Italian sparkler typically presents a lively, bright straw-yellow color with fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose, it often reveals a fresh and intense bouquet characterized by notes of ripe Golden Delicious apples, white flowers, and a delicate hint of yeast, a result of its aging period on the lees (typically around 20-24 months).
The palate is generally harmonious and well-balanced, with flavors of ripe fruit, sometimes with hints of citrus, white peach, and attractive notes of crusty bread or brioche. It is known for its creamy mousse, crisp acidity, and a clean, often long-lasting finish.
Ferrari Brut is widely considered a quintessential Italian aperitivo wine. It also pairs well with a variety of lighter dishes, particularly seafood, as well as cured meats like Parma ham and cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano. Its consistent quality and approachable style have made it a popular choice both in Italy and internationally.
