The 2023 Opus One arrives from one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated growing seasons in recent memory—a long, temperate vintage that gave Cabernet Sauvignon the rare luxury of ripening slowly, developing remarkable aromatic purity, polished tannins and vibrant natural freshness. The result is a classically proportioned Opus One that combines the grandeur of Napa Valley with the restraint and structural precision of Bordeaux.
Cool blueberry, cassis and blackberry aromas rise from the glass, joined by red cherry, violet, cocoa powder and subtle notes of sagebrush, tobacco and graphite. The palate is satin-textured and beautifully composed, with concentrated dark fruit framed by intricately fine-grained tannins, refined French oak and a mineral tension that keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. The finish is exceptionally long and poised, carrying lingering impressions of black fruit, graphite, savory herbs and a delicate saline note.
Created through the historic partnership between Napa Valley visionary Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, Opus One remains one of the world’s most recognizable and collectible fine wines. The 2023 was fermented with native yeasts, incorporated a small portion of amphora aging and matured for 19 months in 95% new French oak. It was also the first vintage in which the estate’s vineyards were farmed regeneratively, adding another meaningful chapter to the winery’s pursuit of precision and longevity.
