David Beckham drinks red wine at World Cup match

David Beckham Gulps a 'Fishbowl' of Red Wine at the World Cup

Just when you thought a 2026 World Cup match couldn’t get any more dramatic especially with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas trading barbs daily in the studio booth , David Beckham enters the chat.

While Scotland was busy enduring a nightmare 3-0 group-stage defeat to Brazil at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, "Becks" was catching the eyes of thousands of fans for something completely unrelated to Vinícius Jr.’s masterclass. It wasn't his perfectly tailored brown blazer, either. No, the internet was collectively losing its mind over the sheer, unadulterated size of the wine glass cradled in the Inter Miami owner's hands.

The Sweltering 30°C Red Wine Choice

Let’s set the scene: it’s Florida, the humidity is practically thick enough to chew, and the thermometer is sitting comfortably at a sweltering 30°C. For most human beings, this calls for an ice-cold lager, a crisp gin and tonic, or maybe a chilled glass of rosé.

Not for Beckham. The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend decided to beat the subtropical heat by sipping on a heavy red.

But it wasn't just what he was drinking; it was how he was drinking it. Social media quickly erupted as fans spotted  the massive glassware Becks was sporting in the VIP stands.

“David Beckham with a fishbowl of red wine,” joked one supporter on X.

Another chimed in: “Did everyone see David Beckham take the biggest swig of red wine from the biggest glass ever?”

It was a pour of biblical proportions—a chalice so generously filled that it immediately conjured up memories of Johnny Depp’s infamous courtroom phrase. Yes, folks, David Beckham was drinking a bonafide--"mega pint."

Decoding the "Mega Pint": What Was in Becks' Glass?

While the BBC cameras didn't zoom in close enough for us to scan a barcode, we can make some highly educated guesses based on Beckham's famously lavish, high-end taste in vino. We are absolutely certain that he did not pick up a bottle of Apothic at Publix on the way to the match.

So, what kind of red warrants a giant fishbowl from Beckham's box seats.

1. The Iconic Bordeaux: Château Lafite Rothschild

David and Victoria are notoriously obsessed with high-end French wine. They famously celebrated their anniversary with a bottle of 1990 Château Lafite Rothschild (which easily clears £1,000 a bottle). A prestigious, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Bordeaux requires a massive bowl to properly breathe, allowing those deep black-currant and cedar aromas to open up. If he’s drinking a mega pint, he’s letting it breathe in style.

2. The California Cult Classic: Screaming Eagle

Given that the match took place on US soil in Miami, David might have opted for a domestic heavyweight. The Beckhams have previously faced the envy of the internet for popping open bottles of Screaming Eagle—one of Napa Valley's most exclusive and expensive cult Cabernets. Napa Cabs are big, bold, and heavily structured, perfectly suiting a massive glass that lets the rich flavors stretch their wings.

3. The Local Hero: An Argentinian Malbec

Considering his deep ties to Inter Miami and his close relationship with Lionel Messi, it’s highly possible David was paying homage to South American football royalty by pouring a top-tier Argentinian Malbec (perhaps a Catena Zapata or a high-end Cobos). Malbecs are famously plush, velvety, and dark—and let's be honest, watching Brazil dismantle Scotland goes down a bit easier with a rich South American red in hand.

Whatever was swirling in Sir David's fishbowl of a glass, we are just grateful to see him enjoying wine
