This exemplary vineyard, Bernadot, located just below the village of Treiso, has been considered one of the best vineyards located within the DOCG Barbaresco for more than a century. Enclosed in a natural amphitheater, this vineyard site contains a special microclimate favorable to the phenolic maturation of the vines. The Ceretto family has made wine from this site for over two decades, repeatedly showcasing wines with an exciting drinkability.
Located at a rather high elevation of 400 meters above sea level, the Ceretto family farms their 11.95 acres of this cru biodynamically. Winemaker Alessandro Ceretto feels this practice is making the wine “More expressive year-after-year, and not only pleasing on the palate but also remarkably dynamic.”
Tasting Notes
The inimitable single vineyard within the DOCG Barbaresco is known to produce wines that are rounder and more complex than other parts of the appellation. One of the favorite vineyards of winemaker Alessandro Ceretto, Alessandro feels this wine has a ‘larger, yet softer, tannin structure’ due to the high amounts of clay found in the soil near the village of Trieso. While the 2020 Bernadotcan certainly be appreciated when consumed young, this wine will also age well as its sweet tannins often morph into heady aromas of savory spice with age, making it a wine ready to drink now andone which will age gracefully over time.
