About This Wine
From the steep, wind-swept hillsides of Happy Canyon, the 2020 Crown Point shows why this estate has quickly become one of California’s most talked-about luxury newcomers. The wine opens with dense aromas of blackcurrant, crushed blackberry and dark cherry, layered with graphite, violets and a hint of sagebrush that reflects the Santa Ynez Valley’s cooler, maritime-influenced terrain. On the palate it is powerful yet polished — ripe cassis and plum glide into espresso, cocoa nib and cedar, framed by finely grained tannins rather than heavy oak. A mineral spine and subtle savory note keep the richness in check, finishing long, structured and remarkably fresh for such concentration helps the wine feel closer to a Left-Bank Bordeaux in architecture than a typical Napa blockbuster.
