From the Winemaker:

The label of Guidalberto depicts the Oratory of San Guido, and the wine is named after the family ancestor Guidalberto della Gherardesca, an agricultural pioneer in the Bolgheri area. It was in the first decades of the 1800’s when he built the first factories, and churches, and planned the avenue of cypress trees, the Viale dei Cipressi. These trees were initially used to mark the boundaries between the different crops. Its ornamental value, with the tall cypresses running in double rows, came after that. Guidalberto is from the producers of the legendary Sassicaia, with a more approachable drinkability and a great aging potential. It is a great expression of the Tenuta San Guido territory.

HARVEST NOTE:
The vintage 2022 was tendentially warm. The autumn climate had temperatures above the norm and abundant rains. In November, the night temperatures often dropped, creating an optimal situation for the vegetative rest of the plants and elimination of parasites. The rains continued in January to mid-February. In the very first days of April, a sudden drop in temperature caused a modest bud selection in some vineyards. The remainder of April had sunny and windy days and temperatures slightly below average. May began with mild temperatures and some short rains. In the summer, temperatures were often above average with no rain. Fortunately, the area and its pedoclimatic characteristics greatly helped the plants, allowing for a good quality of the grapes. Lower production per plant and the sparser bunches helped to maintain production and complete ripening, while avoiding stressful conditions. The intense heat lasted until mid-August when a perturbation brought rain and a drop in temperature. In this vintage the grapes ripened earlier than average. The Merlot harvest began on August 23rd until early September. The harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes began in the first week of September until the end of the month.

TASTING NOTE:
This vintage is a bit closed on the nose at a young age, it needs to breathe in the glass to reach its rich aromatic complexity. It recalls the Mediterranean scrub and its essences, strawberry tree, juniper but also earthy and humus notes. Its complex nuances identify its belonging to the terroir of origin. In the mouth the tannins are perfectly integrated, and their maturity accompanies the natural length of the wine on the palate, where freshness and depth stay in the foreground. Excellent salinity, not intrusive, which gives good length and persistence to the nose.

FOOD PAIRING:
Pair with Bolognese and other meat sauce pastas, grilled pork and beef, and roasts.
