Bordeaux, a name that evokes images of elegance and tradition—dinners at Downton Abbey—but also leaves wine lovers yearning for more. Despite its historical significance and esteemed status, Bordeaux seems to have fallen into the trap of predictability, struggling to keep pace with the dynamic and ever-evolving world of wine especially in California. ("California...knows how to party," as Tupac said.)
As reports trickle in from multiple Russian news sources, details have emerged regarding the explosive device placed inside a box that was loaded onto the plane just before its departure. According to these reports, the box allegedly contained "expensive wine."
When it comes to aging wines, our minds often conjure images of first growth Bordeauxs gracefully maturing in cellars of early investors in FTX. D̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶w̶r̶i̶t̶e̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶B̶o̶r̶d̶e̶a̶u̶x̶ ̶t̶a̶k̶e̶d̶o̶w̶n̶. However, the world of aging wine is not limited to Bordeauxs or even reds for that matter. Aging white wines is a thing too.
In the realm of wine brands, certain labels emerge as iconic, pleasing the palates of somm's and novices alike. Among these, Belle Glos Pinot Noir stands out as a true testament to craftsmanship, quality, and a distinct sense of place or as we like to say--somewhereness.
As wine resellers for some time, we are constantly checking our sales and Belle Glos has been a top seller since our inception. Three of their wines are in our Top Ten list. Hence, I thought it would be interesting to examine the reasons behind the remarkable success of Belle Glos Pinot Noir wines, exploring their origin, winemaking philosophy, and the unique factors that contribute to their staying power with fickle consumers.
It all started when Carrie Bradshaw put Napa Valley on the map. In an episode of "Sex and The City" Carrie remarks "You Take a Napa, Don't Move To Napa" in response to the decision of her on-again,off-again partner, Mr. Bigg, to move to Napa Valley to escape his stressful life as a New York financier. Napa has since been attacked for being the elite destination for finance guys who ever since they started chasing yield in Napa, Oakville and Yountville have raised the price of its juice. But this is not true. The price of the juice was always going to be higher for a myriad of reasons, including but not limited to the Judgement of Paris, but everyone loves pop culture references so we just went with it.
